The Museu Olímpic i de l’ Esport “Joan Antoni Samaranch” in Barcelona has hosted the presentation of the 21st edition of the Barcelona International Supercross and Freestyle event. The show, which will take place on Saturday, November the 23rd, promises 3 hours of thrilling supercross battles and astonishing freestyle jumps. Barcelona City Councillor and Deputy for Sports, David Escudé, highlighted the importance of this event: “We are facing a spectacular show format and we are lucky to have an event of such an international top level in Barcelona”.
Jordi Castells, Barcelona Supercross & Freestyle event director recalled the level of the participants in the Supercross: “We have always tried to get the best supercross riders in the world in Barcelona. This year level is very high, as Barcelona will count towards the SX Tour championship, and fights will be spectacular. This will result in an increase in the level of the show.”
American riders will top the list: Justin Bogle, Benny Bloss and Tyler Bowers. Highly motivated to win in Barcelona, Bogle, an AMA top-10 overall finisher in both supercross and motocross this season, part as the big favourite, although battle will be served with his compatriots and some of the best European riders. Current SX tour overall leader and triple European supercross champion, Cédric Soubeyras (Huqsvarna), won’t make things easy for them, as will compatriot Greg Aranda (Kawasaki), 2019 British Arenacross 450cc championship winner.
Best Spanish racers could not miss the biggest indoor event of the year. Joan Cros, current Spanish Supercross champion and a racer who has competed in both the American AMA Supercross 250 West Coast championship and the AMA Supercross 450 East Coast championship this season, and also Ander Valentín, 2019 MX1 Elite Spanish Motocross champion, will be the local big names. Cros sets the overall podium as a goal: “I will try to go out first and win the race. Who said I can’t beat Justin Bogle?”
In freestyle motocross level cannot be higher. Tom Pagès ,the FMX world No. 1, will offer a trick never seen in Barcelona: the “Front Flip”, a jump including a 360-degree rotation onwards. This trick will also be presented by German Luc Ackermann, the new 2019 FIM Freestyle world champion. Moreover, local hero Edgar Torronteras will offer once again his best and full-of-flow tricks.
Competitions will take place as follows. The SX1 category will play two semi-finals. Top-7 riders in each semi-final will qualify directly for the two independent finals. The remaining 4 finalists will come out of a Last Chance Qualifier race.
The Kawasaki Team Green Cup and the SX125 2-stroke categories will directly contest two finals that will add points independently.
The “face to face” competition will be held once again. The 8 fastest racers in the official timed practices will face each other in pairs in straight playoffs, with quarter-final rounds, semi-finals and the grand final.
Juan Porcar, CEO of RPM-MKTG wanted to recall the link of the organizing company RPM-MKTG, with the city of Barcelona: “the link of RPM-MKTG with Barcelona is very special. Over 42 years we have not stopped organizing events in the city and our will is continuing to do so for another 40 years.”
Venue gates will open at five o’clock in the afternoon. The event, consisting in three hours of thrilling racing and top freestyle performances, ensures one of the best motorcycling offroad events that can be seen inside an arena.
